(MARCH 4) Tania Reid will be making her last appearance in the ring on March 26th at North Shore, Auckland Takapuna Rugby Club. She will be taking on the undefeated tough boxer that’s recently been making some mega waves, “Night” Mea Motu for the vacant New Zealand National (NZPBA version) Lightweight title.

Tania Reid (2-3-1) certainly made some history in her professional boxing career but before she was a professional, she was an amateur boxer. Even though she has competed in multiple New Zealand national amateur championships, she has always fallen short of a win. However, she has won 2 provincial titles including Manawatu and Wanganui championships.

Representing Taranaki with pride, Tania Reid made her professional boxing debut in 2017 against Wendy Talbot. After that, she had a couple of tough battles Quinita Hati, one of them being for a New Zealand national title, which unfortunately did not work out in her favour. Tania would take on an even tougher opponent in her home town of New Plymouth against former WBC world ranked boxer Baby Nansen, however again she did not get the victory.

Tania Reid took a gamble and did exactly what World champion Geovana Peres did. She gave up everything, her personal life, her social life, her work life and started training full time. She went to Thailand to train with one of the best gyms in the world. After doing this in 2019, she took on a boxer who was half her age, undefeated Rachel Loder for the historical ANBF Australasian lightweight title. The sacrifice paid off as she not only won the title but also made history, becoming the first New Zealand female to win the title.

Last year in her last fight she took on a tough navy officer Karen Te Ruki Pasene for another chance at the New Zealand national title. The fight was close but unfortunately, Karen came on top with a split decision win. Now at the age of 42, Tania Reid has decided to call it quits, but she won’t be going out quietly. She wants one more chance at the New Zealand title but this time it will be up against the toughest opponent of her career, Mea Motu.

The undefeated Mea Motu (5-0-0) is certainly one of the toughest and most exciting Women’s boxer in New Zealand to date. She is the 2020 New Zealand boxer of the year at the New Zealand boxing awards. In her first year she fought 4 times in a space of 3 months. Not only has she already fought this year, but She also has this fight scheduled and another fight scheduled the following month. She is trained by one of the best gyms in Auckland, if not, the best in New Zealand today with Peach Boxing Gym under Isaac Peach. And even though she is one of the nicest boxers out there, don’t be fooled as she is looking for a knockout.


As for the undercard, we will also see another tough women’s boxing fight with multiple New Zealand national amateur boxing champion Ariane Nicholson, taking on one of the scariest women fighters in the fight scene, MMA fighter and WMC World Middleweight Champion Genah Fabian. This is an extremely exciting fight to watch.

Ariane Nicholson is an extremely highly credentialed amateur boxing boxer. Both fighters have travelled the world competing in their respective sport, but also Ariane can say she has won a particular title that not a lot of New Zealanders can say they won. She has won the gold medal at the Arafura Games in 2019. Only 17 New Zealand boxers have won the gold medal at the championships, Most notably Dawn Chalmers (2005), Henry Deacon (2007), Akexis Pritchard (2011), Joseph Parker (2011), Joe Blackbourne (2011), Siaki Tu (2019) and Christina Reid (2019). Ariane made her professional boxing debut in her hometown of Tauranga last November in a winning TKO effort against Uesa Opetaia. With her promoter Craig Thomson, we are expected for her to climb the ranks extremely quickly.

As for her opponent Genah Fabian, she will be a massive challenger, even if it is her professional boxing debut. She has also travelled the world for Kickboxing and MMA. (According to Wikipedia) she has fought 12 times in her fight career so far, including a massive Word Muay Thai title win over Canadian Charmaine Tweet back in 2018.

The card will also feature Jerome Pampellone who has recently come off a win on the Joseph Parker vs Junior Far Undercard. Jerome has already got three wins in his professional career and not only is booked on this card but also is expected to fight on the P3 promotions boxing event the following month and on Isaac Peach next even in May.
