Three of the biggest women’s boxing stars of this generation

Although it is not often spoken about very much, women’s boxing is just as big as the male counterpart sport. Starting in 1876, with the first female boxing match being held in the US, boxing has moved in leaps and bounds from what it once was. Though the prize for that first-ever match was a “silver butter dish,” today’s winnings are more in line with what the male boxers are awarded (which is a relief, because how inappropriate would a kitchen-related prize be for women now? We’re betting that one was organized by men, that’s for sure!).   Full Story

(DEC 19) In a first-of-its-kind partnership, USA Boxing and Paul will give the country a behind the scenes look at the team’s Olympic journey to Paris, while Paul will mentor athletes on being a brand inside and outside the ring. (DEC 19)  On Saturday night at the Palaboxe Aurelio Santoro, Roma, Italy, Veronica Tosi, 116.5, of Vigevano, Lombardia, Italy, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Anna Lisa Brozzi, 117 3/4, of Lazio, Italy. Germany:  Jessica Nery Plata Won a Split Decision over Sarah Bormann

(DEC 18) On Friday night (December 16th)  at the in Karlsruhe, Germany, Jessica Nery Plata won by a ten-round split decision over Sarah "Babyface" Borman, of Hessen, Germany, for the WBC and WBA Light-flyweight world titles. Final judges scores were 95-94, 93-96, and 92-97.  Photos-Weigh-in

(DEC 18) In the last part of April of 1987, former World Women's Lightweight Marian "Lady Tyger" Trimiar staged a well-publicized month long hunger strike, losing nearly 30 lbs., for the rights of women's boxing and to advocate better money and conditions for professional female boxers---even though she was protesting for others and not herself.  Full Story

(DEC 15) Tonight at the Town Hall, in Melbourn, Australia and promoted by DJMC Promotions, Thanchanok Phanan, 16-8-0 (9KO), of Roi-Et, Thailand and Urvashi Singh, 10-3-0 (6KO), of Delhi, India, will be facing each other for the WBC International Super Bantamweight title in a ten-round bout.

Results in Canada: Two Female Bouts

(DEC 12) On Saturday night at the Rebel Entertainment Complex, in Toronto, Canada,  Amanda Galle, 121 1/2, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Niorkis Carreno, 123 3/4. The two were fighting for the IBO World Bantamweight title. Final Judges scores were 96-94, 97-93, and 98-92. In a second female bout, Jessica Camara, 136 3/4, won by a fourth round TKO over Estefania Orozco Oliva, 136 1/2.

Miyo Yoshida won by a decision over Ebanie Bridges for IBF Title

(DEC 10) Last Night at the Chase Center, San Francisco, California,  Miyo Yoshida, 117¾, of New York, New York, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Ebanie Bridges, 117½, of New South Wales, Australia. The two were fighting for the vacant IBF Bantamweight World Title. Final judges scores were 91-99, 93-97, and 91-99.

(DEC 7)  World Boxing Council respond to Serrano's statement
Puerto Rican star Amanda Serrano was particularly damning towards the governing body after she vacated her WBC World featherweight title after a disagreement over equal rights in the sport.
The seven-weight world champion released a statement earlier this week showing her displeasure at the WBC for refusing to sanction 12 three-minute rounds championship fights for females.  Full Story

(DEC 4) STAMFORD, CONN -  Peacock will stream live coverage of the final day of the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing this Saturday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. ET from the Cajundome in Lafayette, La. The 13 boxers who win their weight class this weekend will advance to the High Performance Selection Camp in January, where they will be among the few selected to compete for spots on the U.S. Olympic team competing in Paris next summer.  Full Story

Amateur Female Boxer Asia Smith died in a Tragic Vehicle Accident

(DEC 3) CLEVELAND, OHIO - Sad News today for Women's Boxing - 32-year-old Asia Smith, a very successful amateur boxer and a coach died one day before Thanksgiving in a tragic vehicle accident. She had just gotten married and was expecting a baby, being eight weeks pregnant. Rest in peace Asia, WBAN gives our condolences to Asia's family and Friends....

(DEC 1) WBAN would like to congratulate Katie Taylor who has been named our WBAN's December 2023 Fighter of the Month.  She recently had a fantastic fight in a rematch with Chantelle Cameron where she avenged her loss in their first fight where Taylor experienced her first loss as a professional boxer.
