(JUN 25) WBAN has received a statement from Bonnie Canino, of Team Reis about the fight that took place between Teresa Perozzi, of Bermuda vs. Yvonne Reis, of Florida, U.S.A. Canino wrote the following:

We were disappointed with Bermuda’s unfair judging and the boxing commission’s work. This is just another example of the black eye in boxing that keeps boxing back from its growth in this decade. There is no Honor or Respect.

Saturday night Yvonne Reis faced off with Teresa Perozzi in her hometown of Bermuda for a 6 round fight at a contract weight at 165 pounds. Reis lost on a unanimous decision to their country’s girl, where Reis clearly won all the rounds, out punching and scoring the punches to the girl knowing when you go to someone’s home town you will have to take it away from them. Reis showed ring leadership, boxing skills, footwork, punching power, heart and conditioning. To begin with, this is no disrespect to Perozzi as she is just a fighter, but what’s around it.

1. The weigh-in.  Which was schedule for 36 hours before the fight. Normally it’s 24 hours, but we had accepted it because they had said it was for the press, they only had one reporter shown up.

2. The fight contract was signed for 165 pounds. The head of the boxing commission informed us that he considers that in the super middle weight division and he will allowed a weight allowance up to 168 pound. We had protested the reasoning, but we were in his country. Perozzi weighed in at 166½  pounds and Reis at 164 pounds.

3. At the fight, they put us in a holding stage while the boxing commission ran around looking for the judge that was appointed to the fight. Then he started to point at a gentleman who is known around the country as the Waving Man, in front of us, he had never judged before, and had no experience, except watching it [boxing]. They found the Bermudian Judge about 20 minutes later, all 3 Judges were Bermudians. One judge was the head of the boxing commission.

4. The Judges scorecards were messed up with about 3 10-10 rounds 2 10-9 rounds for Perozzi and 1 9-10 round for Reis. (3 10-10 Rounds?)

I am upset for Reis. Since Florida promoters normally won’t pay or have a woman fight on their card. So many times like all fighters you go to the back door to get a fight, knowing the odds are against you. You hope that Judges won’t committee the Sin of unfairness, which can be considered corruption.

Are there any fair places to boxing? Both athletes train hard and the best fighter for that night should be given the victory, but that is not the case, especially in the Island or in most another country.

The Country of Bermuda is beautiful and the people were nice. The unfair and professionalism in the boxing should be looked at.

[WBAN would like to get a copy of the boxing cards on this fight.  Canino said that there may be a video tape that caught a questionable conversation that took place prior to the Reis-Perozzi fight at the event---but unless WBAN can obtain a copy of this video we will not talk about the content of that conversation.]  We also welcome the Bermuda Commission and Team Perozzi to contact us in regards to this fight.
