(NOV 26) Denmark's only two female pro boxers were in action Saturday night in Gilleleje. The current WBA, WBA and GBU Bantam weight world champion Anita Christensen was schedule to fight Elina Miftode in a six round non title fight. However Miftode did not show up, and instead a last minute substitute, Micaela Calugareanu was flown in from Romania. Calugareanu's record was 0-1-0 before this fight, so it is hardly surprising, that this mismatch ended in the 3rd round. Her corner threw the towel to save her from further punishment, even though she did not look hurt at the time.

In a second women's boxing bout, Vinni Skovgaard faced a more seasoned opponent in Romanian journey woman Galina Gumliiska (8-12-1). Gumliiska has been up against names like Michele Aboro, Jane Couch, Anita Christensen, Silke Weickenmeier and Ina Menzer and fought for both European and World titles. She usually fight in the lighter weight division, and she clearly had difficulties coping with the power of junior welterweight Vinni Skovgaard.

Vinni dominated the fight from the opening bell, and it looked like a fight for survival as far as Gumliiska was concerned. The Romanian was on the floor in the 3rd round, but it was not rated knockdown. The end came later in the round when Skovgaard caught Gumliiska with a hard right cross that backed her up against the ropes, where she was on the receiving end of a barrage of punches. Gumliska's corner had the towel ready, just as the referee decided to call a halt to the fight with 45 seconds to go in round 3. Skovgaard improves her record to 5-0-0, and we look forward to follow her further progress, hopefully against stronger opposition.
