(DEC 7) While the scores (98-91
98-91 97-92) would indicate an easy victory for Kina Malpartida over
Scragg in Saturday night's Dynamite Explosion Title Fight at
the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California, this was
not reflective of the fight.
England's Lyndsey Scragg was
indeed the "Tough Cookie" the back of her shorts indicated she
was. Scragg, a tough scrapper, made Malpartida work for her
victory. With excellent form, talent and skills, Scragg just
fell short of executing her plan.
Finding it difficult to get in
close enough to Malpartida to effectively connect with the body,
Scragg struggled to find a place to land enough punches to
detour Malpartida. For a brief second in the early part of round
six, Lyndsey was able to shake up the mostly Peruvian crowd by
dropping Malpartida to her knee with what appeared to be a good
solid right hook. That was the wake up call Malpartida needed.
She took her count from the referee and resumed the use of her
reach advantage. Scragg would not be given the opportunity to
move in close enough for a second opportunity at Kina.

Malpartida is absolutely not the
fighter we expected to see. With a clear understanding of what
needed to be done, Malpartida fired off clear and percise shots
that found their mark repeatedly on the young Brit.....but
Lyndsey's chin was solid and and she was able to absorb the the
onslot of punches without any signs of weakening. Malpartida
demonstrated a development of technical and critical thinking
skills necessary for a Champion to remain at the top of her
game. She is indeed growing as a professional and it is apparent
that she understands her craft. Her new team has indeed done
their job and Kina has been wise to absorb and implement the
lessons.

This young champion has a huge
fan base and the energy at this event was electrifying. The love
of Malpartida by the people of Peru goes to show that we can
have a Peoples Champion in sport of Women's Boxing and feel good
about it. There were many British fans on hand as well and there
were flags from both countries being waved through the air. Two
fighters proud to represent their countries, two countries
united through the sport of Women's Boxing, imagine that.
This was an exceptional event. Again, Roy Englebrecht
Productions, this time with the help of George Talledo, deserves
a round of applause. Thanks so much for your continuing efforts
to keep the Women in the Ring. You have truly out done yourself
on this production!
