(JAN 14) Los Angeles/South
Korea – The International Female Boxers Association (IFBA), kicks
off what promises to be a tremendous 2010 with a strawweight title
belt from Moon Kyung, South Korea on Saturday, February 6, 2010.
The 10-round bout pairs reigning IFBA strawweight champion (102
pounds) Ji Hyun Park (9-2, 4 KOs) against Suszannah “Destiny” Warner
(9-8-1, 2 KOs).
Park, who is coming off three straight unanimous decision title
defenses, will have the proverbial home-field advantage, fighting
near her Icheon City, South Korea hometown. Another big victory by
the 24-year old Park and she will cement her place as one of the top
pound-for-pound female fighters in the world.
Park will have a tough task ahead of her. Warner, a 39-year old
veteran fighter from the UK who now resides in New York, is a
seasoned pro who is coming off a huge victory against Jodie Esquibel
in December 2009.
Warner got a late start in the boxing game. She didn’t start
fighting until she was in her 30s. A 2003 Golden Gloves champion who
also won the 2005 USA Boxing National Championships, she turned pro
at age 35. She has been fighting with reckless abandon since then,
hoping to make up for lost time.
The IFBA title fight will be promoted by Woon Chul Shin and
supervised for the IFBA by former IFBA titleholder Kim Messer.
