What is the Point of Keeping a Fight a Title Fight?
By Sue TL Fox
June 5, 2010

(JUNE 5) Why do we continue to see a title bout on a card for women that has a last minute opponent change--and the fight continues to be for a world title(s) competition?

At times, WBAN will receive news just prior to a title fight that the opponent has dropped out of a particular bout for various reasons, and that there is another named opponent to fill in for that fight.  The last-minute opponent is put  into the fight at a moment's notice, whether they are ranked or not.

There is no problem with an opponent replacement as we say so often, "the show must go on", and there is no problem if the replacement boxer is in physical condition and is someone that can compete in the level of their foe.

But the question is something that WBAN cannot answer, nor anyone else in this game----except maybe the promoter, the managers/trainers of the boxers, the boxing commission (if there is one), and/or the sanctioning bodies.

It is a troubling question that comes up often in these much-too-often boxing scenarios: WHY is the fight still a TITLE FIGHT?

We see this time and again.....

If there is little or no criteria of these federations as to who can box who for what title----why do they bother to even have ratings?

In all frankness---does ANY boxing fan truly care if a belt is introduced in the ring or not once the fight has been changed moments before it is to take place----or does it make the belt look as cheap, losing it's value to the boxer as a top boxer---and non-eventful to win as WBAN sees it?
