(NOV 1) Tel Aviv, Israel’s Hagar “Super” Finer (21-7-3, 6KO’s) got sweet revenge as she successfully defended her WIBF Flyweight championship over the WIBF Light Flyweight champion Julia “Sunshine” Sahin (20-1, 2KO’s) by a ten round unanimous decision. The judge’s scores were 98-92, 97-92 and 96-94. This was a rematch between the two; in their first fight Sahin won a close majority decision in Germany in 2006. In addition, this was Sahin’s first match outside of the protection of Germany.

Hagar Finer vs. Julia Sahin

It was a very technical first round as both fighters boxed on the outside. Finer was able to land the best combination in the round, a left hook right hand that snapped Sahin’s head back. Finer came out very aggressive in the second round and caught Sahin with a hard left hook that stunned her. Finer was able to continue the pressure throughout the round with hard combinations to the head and body that took its tool. Sahin however was able to catch her with a hard left hook of her own near the end of the round. Finer however was landing the much harder and better combinations to the head and body of Sahin.

Finer went for the knockout in the third round and continued her vicious attack to Sahin’s body. The onslaught continued as Finer hurt Sahin with a hook to the jaw and forced her back to the ropes with body punches. All Sahin could do was cover up and hold on as it looked like she was going to the canvass however she was saved by the bell.

In the second half of the fight it was evident that Finer was the harder puncher and much more aggressive fighter and it was starting to take its toll on Sahin. Finer’s body attack and combinations to Sahin’s head was relentless. To her credit Sahin tried her best to punch back and stay in the fight and would land the occasional hard right hand or left hook however she could not put together enough effective combinations to keep pace with Finer.

Lisa Brown vs. Jeri Sitzes

Brown Decisions Sitzes for the Third Time

WBA and WIBA Super Bantamweight world champion Lisa “Bad News” Brown (18-4-3, 5KO’s) earned an eight round unanimous decision over Jeri “Fist of Fury” Sitzes (14-10-1, 6KO’s) of Springfield, Missouri. The judge’s scores were 80-72, 79-73 and 77-75. This was the third fight between Brown and Sitzes; Brown had won the previous two by unanimous decision in 2004 and 2008.

The southpaw Brown came out aggressively trying to establish her jab and mixed her combinations up to the head and body well. Sitzes was more patient moving around looking for openings and trying to counter punch and was able to land two good right hands. The action picked up in the third as Brown stunned Sitzes with a left hook and kept the pressure on her catching her with four unanswered punches. Sitzes was able to regroup however and was able to land some hard combinations to finish the round strong.

Jeri started the fourth round out strong landing two hard right hands that snapped Brown’s head back. Brown recuperated well and went back to boxing Sitzes landing hand shots to her head and body. Sitzes again came back strong at the end of the round using her great right hand. In the fifth round Sitzes started to be even more aggressive and snapped Brown’s head back early with the right hand that stopped her in her tracks. Mid way through the round Sitzes pinned Brown on the ropes and unloaded four hard punches to her head and body. Brown would not be deterred however and came back with a hard right uppercut and left hook combination that snapped Sitzes head back. Sitzes shook her head and came straight back at Brown. Brown was able to finish the round strong.

In the sixth and seventh round Sitzes used Brown’s aggression against her as she would allow Brown to lunge and would catch her with the right hand. Brown continued to mix her punches up to the head and body and was landing more often however Sitzes was landing the harder cleaner punches. The eighth round was a tit for tat round as both fighters landed hard punches and left everything in the ring trying to secure the victory.

(Way closer than the judges scores indicate, I had it even or one round win either way)
