On Friday November 19th, 2010 at the Shaw Conference Centre in
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, “Leathal” Lindsay Garbatt (5-3-1,
3KO’s) of Oshawa, Ontario will be stepping into the ring against
Jelena Mrdjenovich (24-5-1, 12KO’s) who is a multi time world
champion in two divisions. the two will be fighting for the
vacant WIBA Super Featherweight championship. The promoter of
this event is Glen Carriere of KO Boxing Promotions.
The Boxing Examiner.com recently had the opportunity to speak
with Lindsay about her upcoming championship match.Thank you for taking the time to talk to The Boxing Examiner
Lindsay.
TBE: You have just fought two wars against one of the best pound
for pound female fighters in the world where you were able to
win the first fight and get a draw in the rematch. The second
fight is my candidate for fight of the year. How has these
fights changed you as a boxer? What have they done for your
career?
LG: I think my fights against Melissa have proved that I am the
real deal. Melissa in my opinion is the best pound for pound
boxer and our fights have motivated me even harder. As far as
for my career this will be my third title shot and I’m thankful
to get the shot to fight Jelena for the belt.
TBE: This will be your fourth very tough fight in a row all in
2010. Do you think Jelena’s inactivity will affect her when you
meet in the ring?
LG: No I never underestimate a fighter especially not Jelena.
She is too experienced to have a serious case of ring rust.
TBE: What do you know about Mrdjenovich?
LG: I know Jelena’s an experienced fighter and I think our
styles will match up nicely.
TBE: Mrdjenovich is known for her devastating left hook and
punching power. Both of you posses devastating knockout power;
does her aggressive style concern you and how do you approach an
opponent who can match your punching power?
LG: Without giving away too much I look forward to it! I wanna
give the fans an action packed fight.
TBE: What is your prediction on this fight?
LG: I don’t like making predictions but I will state the facts
and that is that I am too hungry for a world title and have
trained too hard not to get it.
TBE: What are your goals for the rest of 2010 and what is on the
horizon in 2011?
LG: I want to end the year as a world champ then stay busy and
continue to take the fights that show the fans what women’s
boxing is all about.
Thank you for your time Lindsay, I appreciate it and good luck
on November 19th.
