Big talks are happening for New Zealand Heavyweight Women
Source/PR/Benjamin Watt

(MAR 29)  After a massive win a couple weeks ago for New Zealand Champion Geovana Peres, some big talks are happening for the future of New Zealand Heavyweight women boxers.

Geovana Peres who holds the NZNBF and PBCNZ light heavyweight titles, now is ranked 9th on Boxrec after her PBCNZ title defence against Lani Daniels. Immediately after the bout, talks started to happen to see what will happen next.

The next thing on the priority list is to get a regional title for Peres in hopes to either get her World ranked or possible future title shot for her. The problem is finding an opponent qualified for Peres to take on who a regional title. Luckily there is a solution for that.

Of course nothing at this present time is confirmed, but right now it looks like Lani Daniels could be defending her NZPBA title against former top 10 ranked boxer Nailini Helu. This bout will be an eliminator for the opportunity to take on Geovana Peres for a regional title from one of the major boxing bodies. This bout could happen in July or in August.

What is confirmed though is Geovana Peres will face the winner of that bout on the 22nd of February 2019. Both Helu and Daniels has fought Peres in the passed, so either would produce an exciting rematch for Peres.

The winner of the Peres vs. either Helu or Daniels will take on WBA ranked 5th Alrie Meleisea either in 2019 or early 2020, hopefully for a major world title. This can only happen though if everyone keeps active, keeps busy and keeps winning their bouts. But if the cards are played right and everyone is in place at the right time, New Zealand could have their next World Champion.

So it is very exciting for the women’s division in New Zealand currently and big talks are happening to make sure this happens. Keep an eye out for official announcements. Please make sure you support these fighters and come along to the events because without any of you, this wouldn't be possible.
