(JULY 16)  The Eddie Melo Legacy Organization was founded by Jessica Melo and her uncle Joseph Melo, daughter and brother respectively, in memory of the late Eddie “Hurricane" Melo (Canadian Champion boxer who was murdered).

  Website:  www.eddiemelolegacy.org

Jessie Melo was affected as a teenager after the murder of her father and wanted to honor him and keep his memory alive and started the EMLO to educate and support young at risk amateur boxers so that they can experience positive influence and sociability while keeping them off the streets and in the boxing gym and, and support and help children and families who have lost a loved one due to a homicide, giving back to them and sponsoring them through athletics, academics, fine arts; anything that can help lessen the burden and give them support during such a tragic time.

This year’s fundraiser is a two-day event starting with the "Eddie Melo Legacy Organization Inaugural Invitational Amateur Boxing Show Toronto 2018", where amateur boxers will have the experience of meeting and socializing with former boxing champions; 5x Canadian Heavyweight Boxing Champion, George Chuvalo, 2x Canadian Champion (Lightweight & Super Lightweight) Nicky Furlano, Canadian Olympian and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, Mark Simmons, Canadian and IBO Lightweight Champion, Billy “the kid” Irwin; ... and EMLO mentors from the U.S.A; 1984 Gold Medalist, 2x World Amateur and 2x World Welterweight Boxing Champion, Mark Breland, 5x World Boxing Champion, Iran “The Blade” Barkley, 3x World Boxing Champion, Junior “Poison” Jones, Amateur Boxing Champion, former World Light Heavyweight contender, John “The Iceman” Scully, and 5x Amateur Boxing Champion, and one of the last Protégés of the late Cus D’Amato alongside Mike Tyson, Tom Patti, among others.
