Maricela Cornejo Wins by a unanimous decision over Erin Toughill
by Sue TL Fox
January 28, 2019

(JAN 28) Last night at the Avalon, in Hollywood, California, in the main event, super middleweight  Maricela Cornejo, 158, won an eight-round unanimous decision over Erin Toughill, 158¾ (according to the three judges scoring the bout 79-73, 79-73, and 78-74.) But were those scores nearly correct?

The bout was well-matched, and very competitive to give props to both Cornejo and Toughill. Toughill returned to professional boxing after having 13 plus years away from this sport--- having her last pro fight in August of 2005.

According to some of the boxing fans, and media folks---it was said by most that the bout was leaning toward Toughill being ahead in this eight rounder with some scoring the fight 78-74 for Toughill.

Cornejo improved her record to 13-3-0 (5KO), and Toughill is now 7-4-1 (0KO).
