Historical photo of Daniella Smith and Geovana Peres together

(NOV 10) A special moment was shared when two of New Zealand’s only women World Champion take a photo with each other.

Geovana Peres earlier this year became the first WBO Women’s World champion in the Light Heavyweight division. In 2010, Daniella Smith became the first-ever IBF Women’s World champion.

Geovana Peres tried boxing on an event to raise money for Canteen, a charity that supports Teenagers going through cancer. She went on winning New Zealand’s Golden Gloves in 2016. In 2017, She made her Pro debut, however, lost to Sarah Long. A month later she won her first title, winning New Zealand National (NZNBF version) Light Heavyweight title, becoming the first person in the LGBT community to win a New Zealand professional boxing title. Later in the year, she won New Zealand National (PBCNZ Version) Light Heavyweight title, tieing the record with Daniella Smith with most New Zealand National titles, but becoming the first female to win a title in different commissioning bodies. In 2018, Peres successfully defended her PBCNZ title against Lani Daniels. The fight was such a close fight that they went on to have a rematch, but this time for the first-ever WBO Women’s World title in the Light Heavyweight division. Geovana won the bout, becoming New Zealand’s second world women’s champion. She went on to successfully defended her title against Claire Hafner, gaining her first knockout of her career.

Daniella Smith has accomplished so much in her amateur and professional career. Not only winning multiple New Zealand titles in amateur boxing but, also becoming the second female boxer to hold a New Zealand boxing, and first female boxer to hold multiple New Zealand titles. She went on to win the first-ever IBF World title in any division in 2010, in Germany. She retired in 2014 with the record of 13 - 6 - 0. Now she is a trainer, a boxing manager and a Promoter for Charity boxing events. Her events “Diamonds in the ring” has raised over $150k with various refuge groups, most notably Women's Refuge.

Today Daniella Smith and Geoavana Peres are friends. This photo is of them together after Geovana Peres came in as a special guest in Daniella Smiths Class.
