(DEC 30) WBAN just published our first history-first coverage of the historic U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Women’s Boxing had officially kicked off with the tournament at the Northern Quest resort. All 24 participants as well as USA Boxing officials were on hand for the official event draw, which would determine each of the athletes road to gold in Spokane, Washington. The U.S. Olympic Team Trials event draw was done manually with each of the four non-seeded boxers pulling a numbered ping-pong ball to determine whom they will face in opening round action that took place that Monday night.

The top four finishers from the 2011 USA Boxing National Championships in the three women’s Olympic weight divisions would be the top four seeds, corresponding with their finish in the tournament.

Amateurs who made it to the final 24 USA Amateur Female Boxers. Claressa Shields, Marlen Esparza, Christina Cruz, Alex Love, Queen Underwood, Mikaela Mayer, Franchon Crew-Dezurn, Tiara Brown, Cynthia Moreno, Traversha Norwood, Virginia Fuchs, Tyrieshia Douglas, Latonya King, Bertha Aracil, Lisa Porter, N’yteeyah Sherman, Asia Stevenson, Patricia Manuel, Dara Shen, Andrecia Wasson, Tiffanie Ward, Tiffanie Hearn, Tika Hemingway, and Raquel Miller. I will be posting many more photos of this historic event in segments, as the tournament lasted for a week and WBAN has hundreds of unique photos of all of these elite athletics that made history with either competing to get to the Olympics or going on to compete and win in the Olympics in 2012.
