Middleweight
Trinity "La Traviesa" Guzman, 0-1-0 (0KO), 26 years old (as of
12/2003), 5'8", of San Antonio, Texas, is a new up and coming boxer on
the professional boxing scene.
It was October of 2002, when Guzman was inspired by the movie, "Girl fight"
and decided to try her hand in boxing. Guzman walked into the
Scholar Warrior Boxing gym
looking for a good coach.
Guzman told WBAN, " I thought it was impossible or who would of ever have
thought that I would become a professional boxer after a good year of
training. The knowledge and the wisdom of my coach pushing me to
that limit has really showed me that I can reach my dreams." Guzman trains
under the tutelage of Coach Emilio Ledezma.
"After the butterflies and getting over the hump, and stepping into
the ring, I really have gained my confidence and I truly believe my
coach that I can become number one" added Guzman.
On October 24, 2003, Guzman made her pro
debut, fighting a very tough first opponent, Janaya Davis, when she
took on an hometown favorite in Atlanta, Georgia. WBAN's correspondent
Marc Delamater who covered that event, referred to Guzman as "A Game" boxer.
Guzman did not win her pro debut, but did extremely well against a much more
experienced boxer who was a former national amateur champion.
Coach Ledezma told WBAN, "WBAN Trinity came to me without knowing anything
about boxing
and has shown me tremendous courage. It takes a lot of guts to get into the
ring, and this girl is tough. I have put her with professional
male boxers to spar and tell them not to hold back because, 'she will bust
you up'! And she has....
As females she has stopped or hurt them while sparring. When she fought Janaya
Davis, even though we lost she showed me that she can fight top contenders.
With more experience I know we can beat them---only time will tell."
He went on to say, "Trinity
has also shown me that she can be a good coach someday. She is really caring
towards the young kids and is always going out her way to help them."
