(APR 22) Unable to afford medical
attention in Los Angeles where she is based, former IFBA super
flyweight champion Mariana Juárez may have to return to Mexico or
even give up boxing altogether unless she can find a new manager
willing to pay for an operation on her left bicep, which began
giving her trouble over a year ago and is now the source of
unbearable pain.
She's tried acupuncture, massages,
quacks and alternative medicine – all without success – and is now
desperate. Until now, Juárez's career has been handled by Ben Lira,
with whom, she says, she had no signed agreement and whom she finds
increasingly distant and apathetic with respect to her career,
recommending simply that she rest the affected muscle rather than
organizing the operation she believes she needs. Source: Charles
