(DEC 15) Last night
at the Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino, in Hallandale, Florida,
undefeated boxer Stacey Reile, 123, 7-0-0 (3KO), of Miami, Florida,
won a six-round unanimous decision over Delia Hoppe, 120½. Final
judges scores: 59-55, 59-55, and 58-56.
WBAN was told that Reile had a case of
the flu until the Tuesday before the fight, and that she started off
slow, but finished very strong. Hoppe tried to avoid Reile
throughout the six-rounder, making Reile chase after her, and when
they did exchange punches inside, Hoppe would hold on.
Also, in some men's action, Berry
Butler and Sam Reese traded knockdowns in a wild opening two rounds
before Butler emerged the winner by unanimous decision in the first
round of the IBA America's Light heavyweight Championship. Butler
found himself on the deck in the opening round but turned the the
tables on Reese with two knockdowns in round two. Butler won on
all cards at 78-70 - 78-71 and 77-72. In bout number '2' Danny
Santiago earned the right to meet Butler in the finals, schedled to
take place early next year, by virtue of his eight round win over
Marlon Hayes. Santiago won by scores of 78-73 - 77-74 and 77-72.
