Ireland sending 25 strong squad to European Juniors in Romania May 22nd/June 3rd

(APR 29) The Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) is sending a very strong team to the forthcoming EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships, being held in Romania late May.  The tournament opens in Galati, on May 22.at the 7,000 seater Patinoarul Galati Arena. As Wikipedia tells us : “Galați is the capital city of Galați County, in the historical region of Moldavia, eastern Romania. Galați is a port town on the Danube River.” In 2011, the Romanian census recorded 249,432 residents, making it the 8th most populous city in Romania but by 2017 Eurostat shows that had increased to 514,429. (APRIL 28) Last night at the Cajun Dome, in Lafayette, Louisiana,  Melissa "The Shark" Hernandez, 137¾, of Miami, Florida, successfully returned to the ring after not fighting since July of 2016.  Hernandez fought Selina Barrios, 137¾, of San Antonio, Texas, delivering Barrios first professional loss.  Full Story

Alrie Meleisea Set to make a return

(APR 27) It has been confirmed that the undefeated former New Zealand champion Alrie Meleisea will be making her return to the ring after a 19 months hiatus. Former UBF Asia Pacific & NZPBA Heavyweight champion Alrie Meleisea (4 - 0 - 0) will be returning to the boxing ring on June 15th at ABA Stadium in Auckland New Zealand. She will be going up against former New Zealand title challenger Ashley Campbell. This will be her first fight since her last New Zealand title defence in November 2017.  Full Story

Bruce Glozier of Glozier Boxing has started preparations for the event which is expected to happen in New Zealand Spring this year.  Brazilian born New Zealand Geovana Peres, won her WBO World women's light heavyweight title on 30th of March this year against another New Zealander Lani Daniels. Mary McGee Wins by Decision over Szabados

 (APR 7) Last night at the McBride Hall, in Gary, Indiana, Mary "Merciless" McGee, of Gary, now 25-3-0 (13KO),  won a six-round unanimous decision over Szilvia Szabados, of Miskolc, Hungary,18-15-0 (9KO).  Final judges scores were 60-54. This was McGee's first fight in 2019. She last fought in October of 2018, defeating her last opponent, Latasha Burton, by a KO in the third round.
